Why I’m a Photographer

I watched a video by another photographer on Youtube last night and it got me emotional; it also got me to thinking about the answer to the question: What is your why?

I thought about & reflected on it and I thought what better way to share this than to share on my blog. Enjoy friends!

I do photography because I want to remember the emotions of the day. The candid photos I take? I can look back at those and remember what was being said in that moment or what was taking place during that photo. With posed shots, I don’t really associate those with emotions or feelings.

Candids are what I treasure and focus on from weddings because they really show who you are as a person and all the feelings you’re all sharing with each other on the day you exchange vows.

Without fail at every wedding when I shoot the father daughter dance, I start crying. I had a very close relationship with my dad, who passed away in 2019. He did get to share those traditional wedding moments with me at my first wedding. Even though my ex-husband and I are divorced, and I have since found my soul mate, I still appreciate the fact that I have photos from my 1st wedding with my dad walking me down the aisle and dancing with me for the first dance. That smile on his face walking me out, and us laughing during the first dance as my dad kept asking me “can we stop yet?” since him and I felt awkward dancing in front of everyone. Those were all candid shots; not posed.

Photography helps you to remember the feelings and moments you shared with the people that are no longer with you anymore. They can still live on beside you through photos. It can also help you to remember what emotions were felt, and what memories were created from that day. With all the stress that can go into the wedding planning process, we sometimes forget these things. Also, your wedding day goes FAST. It flies by, so having photos to look back on from the day help you keep the feelings fresh in your mind, and help you see things you may have missed (like your parents getting down on the dance floor, a fun family moment, or your wedding party crying tears of joy during the ceremony).

I love being able to be a part of this special moment in a couple’s life & getting to celebrate with them & their guests. I take photos to tell their stories, help them remember, and give them something they can look back on to share with others about their love story.

I also want the couples I get to work with to have fun, stress less, and enjoy their day. My goal is also for them to feel like they’re working with someone who gets them, and gets their quirks, nerdiness, or uniqueness. We’re celebrating YOU at your wedding, so you should be feeling relaxed & excited on your special day! We’ll laugh, smile, and cry happy tears.
