Liz & Shaun: Nerdy Wedding Photographer in Dahlonega, GA

It has been a hot minute since I have blogged, and I have several weddings and engagements to share with you. Taps mic is this thing on?!

I’ve know Liz for several years online thanks to the wonderful world of cosplay. We follow each other on Twitter and I am into idols as much as Liz and her husband, Shaun are. She reached out to me to see if I would travel for weddings and to ask if I would shoot their wedding…YES?! I was so excited to shoot their day, especially as there were going to be anime and idol references throughout. I also got to go to Dahlonega, GA for the first time and it was lovely. I actually ran into them at the spa the day before!

I loved that Liz was rocking some Buc-cees pants during prep and she was working on finishing off their playlist throughout. Gotta love when you mix in anime/idol music with the regular music you would hear at weddings ;).

Did she even wear an Undertale hoodie during prep? YES.

After prep we headed to the venue and Shaun’s side was getting ready there. Both Liz and Shaun had custom nendroids made to be their cak toppers. Here’s Shaun’s pre-cake placement (and yes even their cat was included!)

Because what is a nerdy wedding without Goku?

Liz and her side of the party waited until they got to the venue to get decked out. I think this is super smart and if you can incorporate this into your day, do it!

Liz did a first look with her side of the party, then she did one with Shaun outside. I loved this venue so much!

This is why I LOVE first looks, you get time for just the two of you and the reactions are always amazing. I also love the scenery at Montaluce Winery!

Can’t have a nerdy wedding without poses referencing anime, such as Dragonball Z!

They had a friend of theres as their officiant; I love when couples have a family member or friend as the officiant as you know they WILL get you.

They walked back down the aisle to a song from The Idolm@ster; it’s OK to have nods to your favorite things on your wedding day. DO IT!

Liz, Shaun, and I headed out to get some golden hour photos. Kudos to them as it was starting to get cold out (this wedding was in the wintertime in Georgia mind you).

And now let’s jump into the nerdy details, shall we? First we have Shaun’s DnD cufflinks!

Pokemon Seating Chart and Pikachu Bride and Groom?! YES PLEASE.

Each table was also broken down into each Pokemon type!

Their favors were these bottle openers, they are a cute style!

This is Liz’s custom nendroid for the top of the wedding cake, so cute!

The food at this venue was amazing as well! I’ll let you take a look at the menu and see if you notice something.

And here you’ll see Liz and Shaun have taken their places atop the cake for the reception to begin….oh wait a minute.

Dancing was done out on the deck; it was winter so there were heaters outside and the energy was super high out there.

When the wotagei comes out, it’s getting serious!

At the end of the night, Liz and Shaun wanted a photo wearing their happi coats (happi) from Idolm@ster: Shiny Colors. I was originally going to join in the happi coat shenanigans but I didn’t get mine ordered in time. Love happi coats.

So remember the menu from earlier in the post? Did you notice something on it? Well…

The date was typed as December 18th, 2023. The wedding was in 2022. Does that mean they need to do it again this year? Did we time travel?! Thanks to Liz & Shaun for having me be a part of your day and thanks to Montaluce Wintery for being an amazing venue to work with!
